7th HEAVEN
A summary for the year...
With five kids, life in the Camden home is never dull. Eric and his wife Annie have their hands full with their kids who try to do what's right but are frequently thrown off course when trouble arises.
You'd think all his training in the ministry would have prepared Reverend Eric Camden for his brood of youngsters and all their hijinks, and most often it does but sometimes it just confuses the issues because he knows he must do the right thing.
The Camden's oldest son Matt is protective and tough like a big brother should be-even if he is a little preoccupied with the females he meets at his high school. It's difficult for Matt sometimes having to choose between his social life and helping out with his younger siblings. The eldest Camden daughter Mary is tough and very into sports. She plays on the basketball team at school and can't seem to find as much time to meet boys as her younger sister Lucy. Lucy is curious and very giving-when she's not day dreaming about her latest crush. Simon, looks up to his big brother Matt. He's the youngest male in the family and sometimes ends up growing up a little faster than he should because of it. Of course, he has little sister Ruthie to look after and together the two end up getting into troubles of their own.
Just when things seem quiet the Camden family is hit hard with bad news. Annie receives word that her mother is dying. As hard as the news is for Annie, she must struggle with breaking it to Matt, as he and his grandmother had always been very close.
After her mother's death, Annie's typical cheery demeanor naturally turns to depression and sadness. It's especially difficult for her when her father departs quickly after the funeral and returns to live a "normal life." Annie is even more distraught when she learns that her father is seriously dating, mere months after the death of her mother.
Tragedy hits the Camden family again when they learn that Reverend Camden's contemporary, Reverend Morgan Hamilton and his church have fallen victim to prejudice. Their church is burnt to the ground by arsonists. The Camden brood is clearly the best bunch to turn to when there's a crisis, big or small. The entire family invites the Hamilton family into their home and unfortunately the racism of a community follows.
Sometimes the dilemma hits the Camdens themselves. The family experiences a very difficult Thanksgiving when Eric's sister Julie pays a visit and can't seem to put down the bottle or lose her bad temper. When she violently shakes Simon, Eric decides it's time to get some help. And when Julie is eventually released from rehab, the Camden clan is there to lend hand, any way they can.
As tight as he is with his sister, Eric Camden and his parents have never had a very close relationship. The dreaded annual visit of Eric's parents goes from bad to worse when both Camden families decide to adopt an orphaned 10 year old boy and Eric finally voices his contempt for his parent's parental skills-or lack of skills. The elder Camdens (The "Colonel" and Grandma Ruth) gain custody of the boy. But they are dumbfounded when, just after they get settled in, the boy's natural father decides to become part of his son's life again.
While Eric and Annie take some much needed time off and go camping alone. Matt's preoccupation with his date takes precedence over watching his younger siblings during Mary's impromptu soiree, and Happy the dog ends up hightailing it out of the house-searching for her puppies and getting hit by a car. The Camdens hold a vigil, waiting to hear the news that their wayward pooch will be okay.
It's a year of highs and lows for the Eric and Annie Camden and their flock of kids. Ruthie gets the strength to bid adieu to her imaginary friend. Simon is able to overcome the wrath of his classmates when his secret crush is accidentally revealed. Lucy is dumped by her shallow beau after she changes her hairstyle. Mary commences a romance with a guy who feels he needs to hide his past and the baby in his present. And Matt becomes completely smitten by a hearing impaired girl named Heather.
But all the ups and downs with love take a backseat when Mary is involved in an accident. The Camedn family bands together when the are told Mary will survive but will need her family to assist her through the painful rehab it'll take to bring her back to the basketball star she was prior to the accident.
