Season Two Recap

A summary for the year...

Season two kicks off when Eric and Annie get married…again. And although the thought of renewing their vows means a lot to the folks, the kids aren't exactly thrilled with the idea. They're all too busy with their own troubles-until the big moment actually arrives and it's more than obvious that the love of their parents is what brings them all together so close in the first place.

Mary is initially anxious about walking down the isle as she continues to recover from her accident. Crutches are cumbersome but the alternative, walking without them, scares her more than anything. But with a little help from her little sister, she is able to pull it off. Mary may struggle with her rehab throughout the year, and her attempt to return to the basketball team, but her ups and downs with Wilson sometimes tend to require more of an effort. Every Camden kid experiences their own struggles as they begin the new school year. Simon, Lucy and Matt kick off the year by getting suspended on the very first day for various reasons, all which are ultimately explainable. And even though they don't get officially suspended, Ruthie and Mary experience troubles of their own. Good thing Eric and Annie ended up taking the day off, even though they didn't end up spending it alone together as they had planned.

Although the Camden kids may have it tough the first day of school, they each experience some truly mammoth moments throughout the year. Ruthie tackles tough learning issues like the speed of light, where her favorite costume hero really comes from and even gets over the fear of her first fieldtrip. Simon learns a valuable lesson in hate when he asks a real Holocaust survivor to come speak at his class, and in doing so teaches the rest of the family as well as his class about love. Lucy's grades hit the gutter at the beginning of the year when she starts hanging out with a bad crowd-but thanks to a surprise visit from John "The Colonel" Camden, she's back on track and better than ever. Although Mary rejoins the basketball team, convinced she'll fail, her family stands behind her despite her bad attitude and she ultimately makes a very triumphant comeback. And Matt relishes the idea of leaving the flock at the end of the year as he becomes the first Camden kid to tackle college. Although the year may be full of triumphs, the Camdens also find themselves in the midst of tragedy from time to time. Lucy experiences personal anguish when her friend is killed in a car accident. She faces the sadness by deciding she won't feel that kind of pain again if she isn't close to people any more, and quietly distances herself.

Lucky for the Camdens, Mary's on-again-off-again relationship with Wilson ends up coming to a head at just the right time and Wilson is able to comfort Lucy by sharing his own pain. Unfortunately, Annie's a little uncomfortable when she thinks Mary and Wilson's back together is just a little too together for her taste.

Matt's relationship with his deaf girlfriend Heather continues to falter and they finally officially call it "quits." Then, despite his father's advice, Matt becomes a caretaker for a dying boy, giving him a new lease on life and teaching a real lesson in giving.

Eric agrees to bring a foreign exchange student into the home but he turns out to be a slimy French con artist. If they'd only listen to Ruthie, who was the only Camden to smell a crook-they could have saved themselves a lot of trouble, and embarrassment. And Eric and Annie learn the value of different opinions when they butt heads while trying to counsel newly married couples with troubles. As the year comes to a close it seems that Lucy is the only Camden without personal woes. Eric and Annie are beside themselves at the news that Mary may be pregnant and Matt is leaving the house and Simon and Ruthie are devastated when Happy's original owner comes to claim her.
