Green is in...the writing
Introducing a new line of enviro-friendly pens and pencils.
February 15, 2008
Pilot Pens have gone green. The Trumbull company's new BeGreen gel pens dispense blue, black or red ink, but they're made of 81.5 percent recycled content, says Robert Silverman, vice president of marketing for the Pilot Pen Corp. of America.
"Our pens aren't going to save the world but we would like to be good corporate citizens," says Silverman. The pens, which sell for less than $2 each — the same price as the company's pens made of non-recycled material — are packaged in recycled cardboard and plastic, and most are refillable, he says. Besides the gel pens, the company is marketing a ballpoint pen made of 77.7 percent recycled content and a mechanical pen made from 71.9 percent recycled content.
Silverman says the company, which sells 25 million to 30 million pens a year worldwide, will continue to expand its recycled products.
BeGreen pens are available at Office Depot, Office Max, Staples, Targetand other office supply and retail stores.
